The dovetail payload adapter mounts to your payload and interfaces with a dovetail receiver on the aircraft. This dovetail is compatible with the receiver side of the quick-release in the following known configurations:
- Astro Max and Alta X Gen2 ship with the aircraft side (receiver) of the Smart Dovetail already installed, but it is also available for sale as an accessory.
Smart Dovetail is not hot-swap compatible. To avoid damaging Astro or your sensor/payload, please power off the aircraft before attaching or removing a Smart Dovetail payload.

The LR1 Payload natively mounts to your Astro with the Freefly Smart Dovetail system.* This connection provides power and data communication from the camera to the ground station controller (and LTE network) for camera controls (camera settings and shutter), gimbal control (tilt), and image preview.
The payload is adjustable and expandable, and supports multiple lenses and for different applications, as well as expansion ports for add-on cameras, sensors, and power out.
Each LR1 Payload includes a Freefly gimbal with a pre-installed 61MP Sony ILX-LR1, a 24mm lens, a USB drive to capture geo-tagged JPG images**, and a travel case with a custom foam insert.

Astro Isolator

The Astro Isolator is optimized for payloads up to 1.5 kg / 3.31 lb that use the Smart Dovetail on Astro. The isolator reduces vibrations experienced by the payload from the aircraft for smooth footage and reduced component fatigue.
It mounts directly to the chassis of the Astro with included M3 fasteners and includes a lanyard for added safety.

The isolator comes with 30A durometer dampers pre-installed (as well as a spare set) which work well for most payloads. These can be replaced with 40A/50A dampers if more stiffness is needed for your application. These are available in our store here.

Astro vs Astro Max Props
The Astro is equipped with Freefly F45 motors, where the Astro Max has a newer Freefly 7010 motor. In addition to providing more thrust than the prior generation motor, the Astro Max 7010 motors have a different mounting pattern for props than the F45 motor. It's easy to identify which motor you have visually, just check out the image on the page that shows both motors.
